A top-notch Human Resources generalist, Chris has worked within Human Resources for over 35 years and has built up a formidable reputation as an Executive HR Practitioner, both within Africa and internationally. He joined the Safal Group in February 2008 and is based in Durban, South Africa. His responsibility is to provide leadership and direction in developing and standardizing the Group HR processes, strategies, policies and deployment of the best practice programs to drive the Human Capital Management and HRD agendas.
His areas of expertise include Human Resources strategy, organisational design, development and restructuring, change management, retrenchment facilitation, corporate governance issues, selection methodologies, performance management, industrial relations, as well as manpower planning and business alignment. He also has experience in the USA, Europe, UK and Middle-East, notably Saudi Arabia, and sub-Saharan Africa, where he was involved in strategic HR consulting for large scale organisations prior to joining the Safal Group.
Before this time, he was the Human Resources Director/Executive at CHEP SA (Pty) Ltd, a post which he held for almost 9 years. Whilst at CHEP as the head of Human Resources, he played a critical role in the development and structure of the HR Division and interacted frequently with international counterparts. He travelled in the course of work often to the UK, Europe and the USA.
His career at CHEP centred on the direction of HR processes and procedures, and the strategic alignment of these processes to the business. This included organisational design and development, competency profiling, employee relations and change management facilitation. This also involved manpower planning and development, and the introduction of career path planning and mentoring and coaching processes. His experience also extends to counselling, corporate values, behavioural profiling, group dynamics and project management. Before joining CHEP, he worked as a management consultant for an international management consultancy in the areas of productivity improvement and efficiency, senior management development and training, as well as organisational restructuring. His previous experience includes change management methodologies and implementation within the manufacturing and services sectors. In addition, he has extensive experience in both individual and group/team facilitation and counselling and provided advice on career and behavioural requirements
He has had industry experience in the following sectors: service industry, logistics and materials handling, manufacturing, tertiary learning institutions, and steel.
His speciality in Human Resources focuses on the alignment of Human Resources processes and practices, to the mainstream of the business, and he firmly believes in the value that HR can add to an organisation. In addition, he has much experience in the introduction of change management processes and performance management into companies, as well as being a mentor and Executive Coach.
